The Venus Bushfires is a creative collective of one and many, of which multidisciplinary artist Helen Epega is the only constant member.

The Nigerian-British singer-songwriter, composer and abstractionist artist explores the ethereal sounds of the ‘hang’ and the power of the talking drum cross-fertilising multiple visual & musical styles.

She has been featured on the BBC, CNN, The Guardian UK, Reuters, France 24, Le Monde, The Guardian Nigeria, TVC News Nigeria and many others.

She composed the world’s first pidgin (broken English) opera ‘Song Queen: A Pidgin Opera’ which debuted at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival in London in July 2015. The groundbreaking opera has since been performed in Lagos and Cape Town.

Her latest work ‘Sounds of Us – A sound art snapshot of Life, Love, Fear, Hope & Protest during the Pandemic Lockdown’, explores everyday sounds from London and Lagos throughout 2020.
